Borago officinalis

Annual ~ Height 30cm-1m ~ Hardy

With leaves which have the faint flavour of cucumber, borage has beautiful intense blue star shaped flowers from early summer to mid autumn. 

Fresh leaves and flowers can be added to salads and cold drinks. The leaves can be made into a tea and flowers can be crystallised.

Borage is very attractive to bees and is reputed to increase the disease resistance of neighbouring plants to harmful insects.

Grows in any soil but prefers a sunny position. Self seeds readily.

CAUTION: The fresh leaves can cause skin irritation.  Eating excessive amounts may cause liver damage.
