Allium fistulosum
Perennial ~ Height 50cm ~ Hardy
With leaves similar to chives Welsh Onion has large creamy white globe shaped flowers in early summer of the second year.
This herb plant can be used as an alternative to chives and so fresh leaves can be snipped into salads or used for butter, sauces, soups and vegetable, egg or cheese dishes.
When big enough bulblets may also be pulled, rather like a spring onion.
Tolerates most soil conditions but prefers rich, moist soil and a sunny position.
